Pastor’s Corner: “Precious in His Sight”

Isaiah 62:3 (AMP) – You will also be [considered] a crown of glory and splendor in the hand of the Lord, And a royal diadem [exceedingly beautiful] in the hand of your God.

The largest diamond in the world was discovered in 1905 in South Africa. The Cullinan Diamond weighed over 600 grams, which is the equivalent of 3106 carats. It was eventually given to the King of England who had it cut into two large diamonds and 103 smaller diamonds with the two larger ones being put in the royal crown. Those gems pale in comparison to the glorious crown that God holds in His hand. You are a jewel in God’s Hand.

We do not always feel this way. Most of us base our value and worth upon what others think and what the world says we are. As much as I tell myself I do not care what others think, I find myself measuring my worth based on their opinions (or the ones I’ve guessed they have) of me. I’ve spent much of my life looking to people to validate my self-worth, relying on their words as truth and not relying on the words of truth from my heavenly Father. How about you?

Some of us have been disabled by the opinions of others and we don’t even realize it. In a sense, some of us have become addicted to the approval of others. Proverbs 29:25 (GNT) – says, “It is dangerous to be concerned with what other people think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.”  Looking to people for validation and self-worth is exhausting and fruitless. When you give more weight to the opinions of others than you do to God’s opinion, you’ll stay on the sidelines when God wants you in the game. You’ll stay locked up in a prison of self-made fear. Other people’s opinions can sidetrack you from God’s purpose for your life. Don’t let that happen!

God wants us to know how precious we are to Him. We are a glorious crown and a royal diadem (diamond) in His hand. He cares for us deeply and wants the best for us. Did you know you are a jewel in God’s hand? You too, are precious in His sight, and He genuinely and deeply cares for you. Isaiah 43:4 (NLV) – 4 You are of great worth in My eyes. You are honored and I love you. You are way more valuable than all of the diamonds on earth combined!

You may be feeling pretty worthless right now, beaten down. Life has probably thrown more at you than you can handle and you don’t feel worth as much as a rhinestone, let alone a diamond. I want you think about this: God never said He loved a diamond but He does say He loves you. Repeat this to yourself twelve times out loud and let it sink in: God never said He loved a diamond but He does say He loves me.

How much does He love and value you? Let me remind you. We are so precious, valued and loved to God that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to this earth to die so you and I wouldn’t have to die because of the way we have messed up our lives with sin. Your sin and failure does not define your value and worth. HE DOES! Remember – the maker of the stars and all of creation would rather die for you than live without you.

In His Grace,

Pastor Hamilton
