Pastor’s Corner: “Weight of Majesty”

Psalm 8:1 (AMP) – O Lord, our Lord, How majestic and glorious and excellent is Your name in all the earth! You have displayed Your splendor above the heavens.

Elevated, Awesome, Marvelous,  Royal, Magnificent, Glorious,  Sovereign, Supreme, Splendor, Power, Dominion, Authority  – these are some of the words which are synonyms for majesty, the word which is used at the beginning and end of Psalm 8 to describe how high the name of the Lord is.

Creation is about the greatness of God, not the significance of man. God made man small and the universe big to say something about Himself. To those choosing to believe that the highly ordered, intricately detailed system that sustains our lives created itself, C. S. Lewis would reply, “A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.”

While God is absolutely great above all things in heaven and earth including man, we are not insignificant to Him!  God has us on His mind constantly, and He cares for us deeply. Psalm 8:3-5 (NIV) When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels  and crowned them with glory and honor. This is an amazing paradox! As small as we are in all of creation, we have great value and worth to God. So much so that He bought and paid for our debt of sin with the life of His one and only beautiful Son who did nothing wrong.

The Bible tells us that God has the power to speak into existence anything He wants: cockroaches, koalas, blueberries, zebras, peonies, pine trees, sand. But of all that He has created, He considers humanity — you and me — to be the highlight. Because He wants a relationship with us.

Do you have trouble believing that God loves and cares for you? If so, you’re not alone. Many Christians struggle with this issue because they can’t quite picture the Lord in all His glory and majesty being interested in individuals like them. Perhaps they feel unworthy of His attention or think He’s too busy governing the entire universe to be concerned about the details of their lives. Whatever the reason for our doubt, we are missing out on the joy of an intimate relationship with the God who loves us and desires to walk with us every day.

When we take the time to seek after and worship God in all His Splendor, Glory and Majesty, we discover a love so wide and high and vast and deep that it should draw us to our knees in awe! Revelation 4:9-11 (AMP) – Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanksgiving to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and they worship Him who lives forever and ever; and they throw down their crowns before the throne, saying,11  “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they exist, and were created and brought into being.”

We need to stop spending our time and effort seeking after the greatness of men and things of this world which is void of love or fulfillment of what we were made for. Rather we need to turn our eyes and heart towards heaven and the Majesty of our Father, His Son Jesus and His Spirit in us!

Worship God in His glory and splendor!  A glimpse of God’s glory will change our life forever. There is a radiance of God’s glory and majesty, and nothing on earth can begin to compare with Him. He is so holy and so pure in all of His splendor and beauty. He wants to be known and worshipped in His glory, splendor and majesty!

In His Grace,
