Pastor’s Corner: “Learning to Soar”
Isaiah 40:31 (AMP) – But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.
Are you tired yet…ready to give up? Just when we thought things could not get worse……surprise! The enemy’s goal is to create an environment of helplessness and hopelessness and he is certainly ramping things up. This has resulted in an environment of chaos unlike anything we have seen in our lifetime. But this is not new. When you start to think that it is impossible to turn things around and that we have gone past the point of no return, remember the cross. Remember that God mad a way where there seemed to be no way for the whole world. The same God who defeated sin and death forever can certainly handle what we are facing today – Amen! As His children, God is teaching us to live in such a way that no matter how bad things get here on earth, we are still living from a heavenly perspective. Keep your head in the clouds! As Christians, we need to learn to soar above helplessness and hopelessness as we trust in our Great Help and Great Hope….. Jesus Christ our King!
I was in my car at a red light and I noticed a bird hopped across the street in front of me. It stopped at the median as traffic from the oncoming lane was moving. It sat and studied the cars going by and appeared to watch the “Don’t Walk” sign, waiting for it to change. Sure enough, as the light changed it hopped across the road to the sidewalk. I thought to myself: Had it forgotten it could fly? I wondered if the bird had watched people walk across that intersection day after day and had decided that was how the task was supposed to be done. The bird could have soared over the traffic and on to its destination, but it waited and walked.
I believe this is where the church (whole body of Christ) is today. We have forgotten the cross. We have forgotten the grave is empty. We have forgotten we are God’s children. We have watched the world and how it responds, how others live and we have started to emulate them. We have forgotten that we were made to fly!
I love Isaiah 40:31! We place our hope in Jesus even if there appears to be nothing to hope in. We do not want to waste the strength and energy He gives us. We do not want to get distracted and sidetracked by a culture or environment that “walks,” only to decide that is how we should be living. Worse yet, we never want to forget that we can fly. Have you forgotten? Have your feet been dragging the ground? Are you like that bird waiting for the “Walk” sign? What types of things “ground” you? Hope in the Lord and soar! How can each of us carry out the attribute of soaring into our daily lives? This is certainly what God is calling us to do at a time such as this!
Prayer: We rejoice thinking how You rose from the grave centuries ago and that You live in our hearts today. Jesus, please show us how to fly over what is dragging us down…Amen!
